Pay Rise Please!
There will always come a time when you will believe you deserve a pay rise. Here are some tips to help with the process.
Timing is Everything
- Ensure you know beforehand when pay reviews are usually conducted at the company i.e. annually or on the anniversary of your start date. There are always those employers that you won’t get anything unless you ask!
- Your individual performance only plays one part into receiving a pay rise. All the factors to consider are below;
- Individual performance
- Company financial performance
- Current state of employment market
Preparing for the Meeting
- Prepare yourself with documented information regarding your achievements in the role and therefore why you deserve a pay rise
- Collate relevant information regarding market salaries for your position
Asking the Question
- After you have requested a pay review meeting with your manager, provide them with all your information and allow them time to review.
- Whatever the answer is, the most important thing is how you respond. Stay calm, don’t get emotional and either way continue on.
