The first step you should take when applying for work is to get active online.

Check that your professional online profiles are up to date. The most important ones are SEEK and LinkedIn as recruiters and hiring managers have a better chance of finding you if they know you are active and looking.

While you are checking if your professional profiles are active, be sure to do a little audit to ensure everything you have posted in the past paints you in a good light. Make sure you haven’t stated anything negative about past employers or work places, or posted anything too political or opinionated.

Another good tip is to check that your profile is in line with the job you are currently looking for. You may be making a career change or looking for different responsibilities from your last role, so check that your profile reflects that.
