The Role of Social Media in Your Job Search
As Recruiters we are seeing increased candidate activity in the job market. With the increased activity comes more competition for candidates searching for jobs. Social media presence can make or break you but having a presence in this increased market is essential.
1.Make sure you have a social media presence: It is important to keep your LinkedIn and SEEK profile up to date so that recruiters and hiring managers can actively search for you and see that you are actively looking for work.
2. Google yourself: If you haven’t done it already, Google yourself. You may have had a friend tag you in a photo on Facebook back in 1999 that you didn’t know about, and it is the first thing that pops up. Googling your name is a good way to do an audit to see what platforms are public or private.
3. Check all your personal social media accounts: With so many different platforms, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and so on, it is important to make sure any personal information that you don’t want others to see are made private. A good rule of thumb, if you post personal photos or information on those sites, check your privacy setting to be sure you are only visible to friends or take a further privacy step by changing your name so that searching for you is more difficult.
